a veneto pizzeria ristorante

The sibs and I went for out for dinner. We were driving along Visayas Avenue when we spotted this rustic Italian restaurant, A Veneto Pizzeria Ristorante.

The restaurant was cozy and dim. I think they were going for a homey-pubby feel.

Chicken Wings, P200

The chicken wings was my least favorite on this meal. It is a deep fried chicken wings marinated in exotic herbs and spices smothered in rich sweet chili sauce. It tasted as if it were re-heated and there was nothing special about the sauce. I expected the meat to be moist and juicy but I got dry and quite tough meat.

New England's Best, P500

New England’s Best, P500

The pizza was good and served straight from the oven. If given a choice, I just wish the dough could have been thinner for I am a fan of thin crust pizzas. The New England’s Best has ground beef, pepperoni, mushroom, onion, bell pepper, and sausage. There were a few choices for the serving size.

Slice – P120

Small – P280

Medium – P500

Large – P695

What I also learned from this place is that you may make your own pizza. You may put more of the ingredients that you like and omit those that don’t appeal in your taste buds.

Baked Ziti with Meatballs, P365

This pasta dish has 3 meaty pieces of Italian meatballs on top of a penne pasta which was baked in rich marinara sauce and topped with soft mozzarella cheese. It was so delicious and cheesy. I love how generous they were in the mozzarella. We absolutely dig cheesy pastas.

It was a good dining experience and I’d probably bring some family and friends along with me to try this place out.

ally’s all day breakfast

I have been to Ally’s All Day Breakfast in Teacher’s Village for a number of times. It became one of the favorites due to the hearty choices and sumptuous servings.

image (1)

The restaurant has a tiny room for 5 or so tables which can accommodate less than 20 people. There are a few more seats available outside though but you will miss the air conditioning.

Service was always good whenever I breakfast here. Even if there is just one wait staff during early hours, they are efficient as ever. There is almost always a line outside because the place is flocked by breakfast people.

I have a few favorites in their menu, the rellenong bangus, daing na bangus and batangas tapa. I have never been disappointed with the food because it had always been tasty. They are good in maintaining the quality of food and this is a good thing for them. I’d say in food (and in most) business consistency is key.

What is your favorite breakfast-go-to-place?

Who doesn’t love cake? It has been a symbol of celebration from all over the world. Plus let’s be honest, sugar/sweets are beyond addicting, aren’t they? Luckily, I have a friend who makes fabulous cakes. Mind you, they don’t just look good they taste even better!

Kristel’s is a bake shop located in Victoria, Oriental Mindoro but the owner *slash* baker often come here in Manila to make cakes for various events. She started this business a few years back but it was just recently that I finally tasted a piece. I am so proud of how far her baking skills have gone so far.

They offer cakes for all sorts of occasions. Here are some samples of her creative juices.

dimsum city

Oooooohhh for the love of dimsums and xiao long bao!

I have always loved dimsums. I often joke that whenever I go to an all you can eat restaurant, it’s not gonna be sulit for me because I only eat dimsums.

image (13)

The Queen and I went to Ongpin Street in Binondo, Manila to devour some authentic didididimsums!

image (11)

Our first stop was the Dong Bei Dumpling.

image (1)

Upon entering, we were welcomed by these ladies in apple green who were currently making dumplings. We were confused whether the restaurant was functional at that time as it seemed like they were just setting up for operating hours.

image (8)

We ordered our absolute favorite, xiao long bao. It was freshly made as soon as we ordered.

image (5)

We also had some of their other dimsums which were equally good and fresh as the xiao long bao.

image (14)

After finishing the dimsums in five minutes we went to our last stop, the Cafe Mezzanine.

image (18) image (17)

We were half full when we reached Cafe Mezzanine but that didn’t stop us from checking out their xiao long bao and siomai.

image (19)

Well, what can I say? Both restaurants served mouth-watering, savory, and authentic dimsums. It is as good as you can get considering that it is the Chinatown in Manila. The travel was a bit exhausting though due to the unending heavy traffic but I’d say it is all worth it.

The Babe and I went for a quick lunch at The Rock in Don Antonio, Quezon City. I didn’t realize that this area has a lot of restaurants until we drove there. I wouldn’t be surprised if this place will be hailed as another Maginhawa food street.

image (6)

We were in the mood for some Japanese food so we chose Hanako.

image (3)

The place was quite alright. I just didn’t like the service because it wasn’t as warm as I expected it to be. The waitresses were talking loudly to one another. They did not totally neglect our presence which, in a way is good but a little more care wouldn’t hurt. Food was served in a flash though. Thumbs up!

Kani Salad, P129

Kani Salad, P129

I am trying to lose weight so I just ordered a salad. The components of this dish were fresh but the Japanese mayonnaise was way too overwhelming.

image (7)

It was swimming on mayonnaise. It would have been perfect had they not drown the fresh cucumber, mango, and crab strips in the mayo pool.

Chicken Katsudon, P149

Chicken Katsudon, P149

The Babe had a fuller meal, a bowl of chicken katsudon. The meat was tender and tasty. It was savory and sweet as any katsudon in town.

Spicy Tuna Teriyaki Roll, P189

This roll was too salty for my liking but we finished it nonetheless. Overall it was an okay experience. It wasn’t too special a meal but considering the price, I’d say it is a steal.

star magic ball 2015

Our favorite local stars were dressed to impress at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel for the 9th Star Magic Ball held on September 12, 2015. It was so classy for the Star Magic Ball organizers to choose neutrals and nudes for this year’s theme. Everyone looked so ravishing but these are my top favorites on the red carpet:

Ellen Adarna

Liza Soberano in Michael Cinco

Tootsy Angara in Rajo Laurel

KZ Tandingan in Yang Bautista

Isabelle Daza in Vania Romoff

Julia Montes in Albert Andrada

Jodi Sta Maria in Hannah Kong

Bea Alonzo in Alexander McQueen

Denise Laurel in Vania Romoff

Maricar Reyes-Poon in Vania Romoff

These are my personal favorites. Let me know yours 🙂

That same day when I met my soooper friend, I still had energy to meet my biii. We were in the mood for thai and we know just where to get it — Jatujak. There is an actual Jatujak in Bangkok which is the largest weekend market in the world. It is a haven for bargain hunters and Thai food lovers. I should know, I had been there.

But this Jatujak restaurant that we found is just located at The Block in SM North EDSA. This place is significant to us as this was where we planned our first out of the country trip together together with our bestfriend.

Chicken Pad Thai, P175
Sampler Appetizer, P198

We had the platter for starters which has shrimp cake, fish cake, and Thai spring rolls. I love the freshness of the spring rolls enhanced by the coriander leaves for garnish. This platter was served with three different delicious sauces. Their pad thai was pretty good and authentic too.

The service was not bad too. This is absolutely my to-go place whenever I crave for thai food.
